Echoes of the ministry of Sr. Marie Nadège

in the Holy Family Training Centre in Douala, Cameroon.

The Centre was set up to help young girls to prepare for their insertion into the social and professional life of their milieu.

What caracterizes this Centre is that we welcome young girls who suffer deprivation in several areas, intellectual, spiritual, financial and in family situations.

We help them to acquire professional training in dress designing and dressmaking, hairdressing and beauty treatment to enable them to become independent and responsible citizens.

At the beginning of the school year 2020/2021, our work got off to a slow start due to the fears around the corona virus. The courage, determination, prayer and love of these young people and especially the words of the Gospel “Do not be afraid…” helped me to overcome my own fears and to devote myself completely to the task  of accompanying each student personally and sensitively. Our approach is wholistic, taking account of the situation of each one, particularly her rythm of understanding and her progression. This approach calls for much patience and attention to each student.

At the end of the first term, none of the students have been sick. They are happy with their discoveries and, at this point, I am more highly motivated and happy to see these young people growing and developing day by day.

From my experience, I would like to share this one thought with you: Let us not be afraid to take risks, to overcome our fears and go to meet Christ who is present in the poor who are always with us.
