We have pulled away from the shore towards deeper waters !

Arriving by train and coach on Sunday afternoon, we were welcomed by Sr. Marjorie and the Councillors. After leaving our luggage in our rooms, we were shown around this very big house and warmly welcomed by the Superior of the community of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit. It is in a beautiful setting and the sun was shining.

On Monday morning, after a word of welcome from Sr. Marjorie, we went to the chapel in procession, nine of us carrying flags which we placed at the foot of the altar, a colourful bouquet representing the nine countries where Marie Auxiliatrice is implanted.

A boat carrying the names of all the Sisters of the Congregation and seven red lights, symbolising the seven gifts of the Spirit completed the decor. We invoked the Spirit in the first hymn: “Spirit of Pentecost, breath of God…”
Our opening Eucharist was celebrated by Fr. Charlie Davy, S.J. our spiritual guide for the Chapter. The Gospel chosen was that of the miraculous catch of fish in Luke 5, 1 – 11.
We had all received the gift of a scarf of different colours which we exchanged with each other at the sign of peace.

At the end of the Mass, we processed to the Chapter room behind Sr. Marjorie who was carrying the boat.

She called each of the capitulants by name : “Here I am”
She then pronounced the General Chapter officially opened.
